Chevron Oronite announced last Tuesday that Desmond “Des” King, currently the president of Chevron Oronite Company LLC, will retire from Chevron on February 1, 2018, after more than 36 years of service to Chevron. He will be replaced by Bruce Chinn, general manager, Chevron Pascagoula Refinery, effective January 1, 2018.

“Throughout his career, King exhibited strong leadership skills and made significant contributions to Chevron’s success, including guiding Oronite to new heights as an additives industry leader over the past four and a half years,” said Pierre Breber, executive vice president, Downstream and Chemicals, Chevron. “He also actively supported his community as well as the chemical engineering profession, and we wish him well in his retirement.”

Chinn brings more than 30 years of industry knowledge to Oronite that includes operational and commercial experience in chemicals, as well as a robust manufacturing background. After receiving his bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering from Texas A&M University, Chinn spent more than 20 years working for DuPont in the United States and internationally. He joined Chevron in 2006 as general manager of reliability in the company’s refining sector, and has since held numerous positions of increasing responsibility in Richmond, CA; San Ramon, CA; and Venezuela.

“The selection of Bruce Chinn as president, Chevron Oronite, will help ensure the continuation of our strong momentum in the fuel and lubricant additive business” added Breber.

Chris Cavote replaced Chinn as Chevron Pascagoula Refinery refinery general manager.
