Last Friday, ExxonMobil, Chevron and Phillips 66 all reported improved third quarter earnings. ExxonMobil's and Phillips 66 earnings were both up 50 percent, while Chevron's earnings were up 52 percent. BP and Shell are scheduled to report third quarter earnings later this week.

Sales for Afton Chemical for the third quarter of 2017 were $546.2 million, up 6.6% versus the same period last year. Operating profit for the third quarter of 2017 was $87.9 million, lower than third quarter operating profit last year of $106.4 million.

Volkswagen Truck & Bus said it will invest 1.4 billion euros (US$ 1.65 billion) in new technology including electric drivetrains, autonomous systems and cloud-based software.

ExxonMobil and independents CAM2, Smitty's Supply, Warren Oil and Chemlube all announced finished lube price increases within the range of 4% to 9% per gallon, during the past week or so.
