GM Updates dexos™ Licensed Oils List; BP Castrol Reverses Stance, Now Licensed

In June 2012, we reported that GM had added 19 additional dexos™ oils to its list of licensed oils, bringing the total to well over 100 licensed dexos™ oils. In the eight months since, GM has added 32 more dexos1™ and 20 more dexos2™ oils to its list of 'GM Licensed dexos™ Products', bringing the total number of dexos1™ oils to 105 and the total number of dexos2™ oils to 75. BP Castrol and Chevron Havoline products are now included.

CPI Engineering Services Partners with Oxea to Make Synthetic Refrigeration Lubricants in China

CPI Engineering Services, a division of Lubrizol, announced its plans last Thursday to partner with Oxea Chemicals to establish manufacturing capabilities in Nanjing China. The manufacturing plant will allow additional capacity to produce CPI's synthetic refrigeration lubricants, including CPI's Emkarate® brand, which are suitable for use with ozone-friendly and low global warming potential refrigerants in the Asian marketplace.

Shell Contemplating Linear Alpha Olefin Expansion at Geismar, LA

Shell Chemical recently confirmed that it is considering an expansion of its Geismar, La. petrochemical facility by adding a world-scale Linear Alpha Olefin (LAO) unit. The proposed unit would help to meet growing global demand for products used to develop items such as synthetic and other premium lubricants and lubricant additives, polyethylene co-monomers, surfactants, and offshore drilling fluids.

Heritage-Crystal Clean to Increase Capacity 50%

Re-refiner Heritage-Crystal Clean announced in its 2012 full year and fourth quarter report last month that it obtained the required air permit to allow the company to expand the annual capacity at its Indianapolis, Indiana re-refinery from 50 million to 75 million gallons of used oil. The expansion will allow the company to produce 45 million gallons of API Group II lube base oil, or about 3,000 barrels per day.

Shell Egypt, Nile Petroleum Sign Agreement to Market Shell Marine Lubricants

Shell Egypt recently signed a partnership agreement with Nile Petroleum, identifying the latter as the primary distributor of Shell marine lubricants in Egypt, to serve ships passing through the Suez Canal, as reported by Egypt's Daily News.

Albemarle to Increase Price of ETHANOX® 4716

Albemarle Corporation announced last Thursday that it will increase the price of ETHANOX 4716 on all shipments globally by $0.25/kg effective immediately, or as contracts allow. ETHANOX 4716 is a hindered phenolic ester antioxidant for use in gasoline engine oils (PCMO), Automatic Transmission Oils, Grease, Hydraulic Oils, Turbine Oils, Transformer Oils and other industrial oils.
